"I'm ecstatic," said Gregory Snider, who claimed the prize Friday at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Snider, a 33-year-old heavy equipment operator from Gambrills, and his wife, Sarah Brown, have two sons and a daughter and are pressed for space in their current home, and they have been laying the groundwork to move to a bigger place.

"We've been saving to do it. This will give it to us now," Snider said in a statement. "We want to give our kids a better life."

The family also plans on taking a vacation, something they haven't been able to do in several years.

"For the past three weeks, I've been having dreams about coming into a lot of money," Snider said.

On Wednesday, Snider went to the Wawa store at 8300 Veterans Highway in Millersville to buy his usual morning coffee.

"It was like the machine was pulling me in," he said.

Snider used the Maryland Lottery's self-service vending machine to buy 10 quick-pick tickets for that evening's Cash4Life drawing before going to work as usual. After the drawing, when he checked his tickets, the scanner flashed that he had won $1 million.

Second-tier Cash4Life winners can choose $1,000 a week for life paid in annual installments or a one-time payment of $1 million.

"I hit all five numbers, but not the Cash Ball," Snider said.

Though the couple is happy about the life-changing win, the extra money will not change their attitude toward their jobs.

The Wawa store picks up a bonus of $2,500 from the Maryland Lottery for selling the second-tier winner.

The top-tier prize in the multi-state game Cash4Life is $1,000 a day for life. Drawings are every day at 9 p.m. Maryland joined the game as the 10th state in 2016 and has had three top-tier winners and seven second-tier winners.
