Ferrari test driver Robert Shwartzman was in action at scenic Mugello on Wednesday racking in the miles during a private test onboard the Scuderia's 2021-spec car.

Shwartzman completed 130 laps of the 5.245km track located in Tuscany's countryside that was visited by Formula 1 during the 2020 season.

The Russian driver who holds an Israeli licence was given the track day as part of his development programme with the Ferrari Driver Academy as well as his preparations for an upcoming FP1 outing with the Scuderia on a yet to be determined race weekend.

The 22-year-old undertook basic set-up work on the SF-91 machine while running on various fuel levels and simulating qualifying and race runs.

The session allowed Shwartzman "to assess on track the same conditions he regularly works with on the simulator", Ferrari said.

"Today was very useful for Robert as he is due to drive in at least two free practice sessions at Formula One World Championship events this season, as per the regulations," the Scuderia added.

"It was also valuable training for other Scuderia personnel.

"The crew working at Maranello today was made up of a mix of very experienced mechanics and engineers, working alongside youngsters training in Maranello, with currently only limited trackside experience."

Shwartzman is exclusively devoting his time to his test and simulator work with Ferrari, having completed two seasons in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Prema Racing during which he won six races.
