Editor's note: Sperry's Moviehouse hours are Monday through Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In the basement of Sperry’s Moviehouse, arcade games line the walls with LED lights and music filling the room.

The newly opened Sperry's Arcadehouse is now open to provide fun for all ages in downtown Port Huron.

The arcade house provides some nostalgic fun for its patrons. It also includes a bar, which offers a variety of canned beers, ciders, cocktails, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. Handheld foods, such as walking tacos and sliders, are also available.

In addition to the about 40 arcade games, the basement has rooms for rent by the hour for people to bring console games. There’s also a room to play cornhole.

“We liked the feel of the old school arcade,” said Steven Potter, the assistant general manager of Sperry’s. “It’s all coin operated.”

Coin machines can be found at both ends of the arcade.

Potter said they are also making a list of games requested by patrons to possibly install in the future.

People have also expressed interest in tabletop games and pinball leagues being hosted at the arcade house. Potter said people will be able to rent out the space for events, such as birthday parties.

Natacha Hayden, the Downtown Development Authority director, said the arcade house has the potential to bring more young people to downtown Port Huron.

“It’s an exciting project,” she said. “It’s something new for the area and it’s going to attract people.”

Potter said the opening went well and estimated over 100 people in attendance through the course of the day. He expects future crowds to get bigger when more word gets out. Currently, the arcade is attracting people in their early 20’s to mid-30’s. However, everyone is welcome.

“It’s really popular in the city, the arcades and bringing back the old school stuff,” Potter said. “There’s definitely a different feel here. It’s a cool vibe.”

Potter said Sperry’s goal is to provide fun attractions to Port Huron. He said he is looking forward to seeing how it will grow as more times goes on.

“(The arcade) is brand new; it’s our baby,” Potter said. “It’s just going to grow and get better and better.”
